HIGH-DENSITY HYDROPONICS: AGTECH INNOVATION

The Lettuce Lads story began with conversations surrounding a hobbyist’s hydroponics setup. Two of the 4 co-founders agreed that current ‘container farm’ business models were struggling to be profitable, so innovation was required in order to create a profitable business model.

A year and a half later, Lettuce Lads designed and built a proof of concept for a hydroponics system that increases growing density and lighting efficiency significantly.

As a proof of concept, several elements of the design were fulfilled with ‘off the shelf’ parts. For example, the system requires LED lights, but there was no need to purchase high-end lighting solutions in order to simply prove the concepts validity. Several elements (including the lighting, troughs, and electrical aspects) will be replaced in future versions by high-quality, customized solutions.

operations + research and design

Lettuce Lads will be building an operational prototype of their design in the Bow Valley in Summer, 2019. While research and design for future versions and other technologies are ongoing, we are currently focused on Bow Valley operations.
